Sharon Osbourne posted a poignant message to Yungblud following his Grammy Award nominations. In a post to Instagram on Nov. 8, the wife and manager of late Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne shared a photo of her and her husband posing with the young English rock singer.
“I’m so proud of you,” Osbourne captioned the photo. “It’s just amazing and I know Ozzy is smiling down at you. Love you always, Sharon.”
Ahead of the 68th Grammy Awards ceremony, Yungblud was nominated for Best Rock Album for his album Idols and Best Rock Song for his single “Zombie,” per Billboard. But his most poignant nomination is for Best Rock Performance for his rendition of the 1972 Black Sabbath song “Changes” at the band's Back to the Beginning farewell show in July.
Ozzy Osbourne died 17 days after Yungblud performed the cover of the song with Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, keyboardist Adam Wakeman, and Sleep Token drummer II.
Following the Grammy nomination announcement, Yungblud posted to Instagram to leave a message for Ozzy. He captioned a photo of himself and the Black Sabbath legend backstage at Back to the Beginning to thank him for all he did to help his career.
“They’ve nominated ‘CHANGES at Villa Park’ for best rock performance at the Grammys, ‘IDOLS’ for best rock album and ‘ZOMBIE’ for best rock song,” Yungblud, 28, wrote. “Thank you to you and your family for giving me the opportunity you did and your stage to show the world what I could do. Thank you for teaching us all how to dream and never compromise. From one madman from England to another, I love you OZ and I hope one day I can show you how much.”
In July, Ozzy was seen mentoring Yungblud in a backstage video taken at Back to the Beginning. In the clip, he told the young singer, “You got the number one album out. Good for you. Conquer America next…Gotta conquer America. Just keep going. Don’t give in.”
Sharon Osbourne added that Yungblud should conquer America and then "conquer the world." Yungblud told the Osbournes that was his plan.
Yungblud has also vowed to keep Ozzy close to his heart, and he continues to wear a necklace the legendary singer gave him. Hours after Ozzy’s death was announced, Yungblud captioned a photo of one of his last moments with the 76-year-old rock icon and wrote, “I will never forget you.”
“You will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage,” Yungblud continued. “Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own.”
