Alabama men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats called FSU-transfer forward Taylor Bol Bowen the team’s “X-factor” in the Crimson Tide’s thrilling 103-96 win over St. John’s on Saturday.
“If Taylor doesn’t bring it like he brought it, we have no chance to win this game, especially with the rest of the guys being in foul trouble,” Oats said.
Bol Bowen brought it statistically as he had 17 points on 6-7 shooting, with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. However, he also contributed in ways that don’t show up on the scoresheet.
Oats praised Bol Bowen’s defensive effort saying that he was “great at coming over and challenging shots on the weak side.”
After the game, Oats said that Bol Bowen won the Hard Hat award for the game with over 20 blue collar points, which are points tallied up by the staff that determine which players hustled the most and were the most physical.
“I couldn’t be more proud of his effort, his toughness, and that’s what we’re going to need out of him moving forward,” Oats said.
Up next for Bol Bowen and the Crimson Tide is what could be its most challenging task of the entire season. No. 1 Purdue makes the trip down to Coleman Coliseum to take on No. 15 Alabama in what will be one of the biggest nonconference matchups in school history. The game will be held at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
