ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A celebration of jazz history took place at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church Sunday evening. The event was organized by Pastor Rick Harvey, a Memphis native with a rich background in jazz.
The celebration featured songs by jazz legends such as Duke Ellington. Organizers shared insights into the meaning behind the music and the concert.
“We provide love through the fellowship, we provide love through the preaching — but we also like to provide love through various genres of music. And this jazz concert that we have here today is one that’s giving people in the community an opportunity to receive love through music, in a way that you don’t normally get it and in a place you don’t normally get it,” said Rev. Harvey.
