2025 RUSSIAN SHORT COURSE NATIONALS

Friday, November 7th – Wednesday, November 12th Kazan, Russia SCM (25m) Day 1 Recap Live Results

Day three of the 2025 Russian Short Course Nationals was perhaps the most electric of the meet thus far, with two notable swims already grabbing headlines.

We reported how 21-year-old Egor Kornev smashed a monster lifetime best of 44.99 to claim the men’s 100m free victory. That rendered him the 5th-best performer worldwide in history and only the 5th man to ever crack the 45-second barrier.

Then in the men’s 400m freestyle, 17-year-old Grigorii Vekovischev blasted a new World Junior Record of 3:36.57 en route to becoming the Russian short course national champion.

There were additional swims worth nothing as well, however, including Kirill Prigoda‘s big-time effort in the men’s 100m breaststroke.

The 29-year-old veteran posted a time of 55.51 to get the job done for gold, splitting 11.59/24.26/14.49/15.17 in the process.

That held off the field handily, with Danil Semyaninov next to the wall in 56.99 followed by Alexander Zhigalov who earned the bronze in 57.63.

As for Prigoda, his 55.51 performance represented the 2nd-best of his career, one which boasts a lifetime best of 55.49 en route to claiming silver at last year’s Short Course World Championships.

He now ranks #1 in the world on the season, dethroning newly minted world record holder Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands who notched a spicy 55.55 at the Toronto stop of this year’s World Aquatics Swimming World Cup.

The women’s 100m breaststroke saw world record holder Evgenia Chikunova do her thing, turning in a time of 1:04.84 as one of two sub-1:05 swimmers in the final.

Chikunova held off a charging Nika Godun who settled for silver in 1:04.96 followed by Olympic medalist Yuliya Efimova who captured bronze in 1:05.33.

Chikunova’s lifetime best in this event remains at the 1:03.53 she logged 3 years ago in Kazan, while Godun’s PB stays at the 1:03.71 from that same year.

Daria Klepikova proved too quick to catch in the women’s 100m freestyle, registering a time of 52.26 as the gold medalist.

Alina Gaifutdinova was next to the wall in 52.52 and Daria Trofimova rounded out the podium in 52.71.
