Paul Rodgers Delivers Emotional Message After Missing Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Bad Company was just inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — but lead singer Paul Rodgers was noticeably absent.

On Monday, Nov. 3, Rodgers announced we would be missing the ceremony due to unspecified health issues. He had planned to reunite with the group with his first performance since 2019.

“My hope was to be at the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame induction ceremony and to perform for the fans, but at this time I have to prioritize my health,” he said in a statement. “I have no problem singing, it’s the stress of everything else. Thanks for understanding. Simon [Kirke] along with some outstanding musicians will be stepping in for me — guaranteed to rock.”

At the induction ceremony, the band performed "Feel Like Makin' Love" with Bryan Adams taking over as lead vocalist. At the end of the song, the group shouted, "We love you Paul!"

After the performance, drummer Simon Kirke paid tribute to Rodgers as well as the group's late guitarist Mick Ralphs, who died in June after suffering a stroke several years earlier.

Kirke gave special shout-outs to Ralph's wife Susie Chavasse and Cynthia Rodgers for how they've cared for his bandmates as they've navigated health issues.

After he wrapped up his speech, Kirke then introduced Rodgers, who addressed the crowd with a pre-recorded video speech.

"I was sitting in my classroom overlooking the chemical factory and the shipyards. My teacher, Mr. Garrity, said, 'Okay, class, take a good look out there. That's where you'll be going when you graduate.'" he began, speaking of his childhood in Middlesbrough, England. "
That night, I went to a dance, and I heard a record by Little Richard, 'Good Golly, Miss Molly!' and a box of fireworks went off in my head, rockets and all.
And I thought to myself, 'I'm going to follow that music and find out all about it. That's what I did.'"

"Now I find myself being inducted into the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with our band Bad Company, the one of a kind Mick Ralphs, we could never have done it without you, mate.
The innovative Boz Burrell, with his in spirit tonight, and the unbeatable Simon Kirke."

He then dedicated the group's induction to their fans and musicians who have inspired them, including Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, and Aretha Franklin, among others. He also thanked their managers, crew, and staff throughout the years.

Saving the best for last, he thanked his children and grandchildren as well as his wife Cynthia, who he has been married to since 2007.

"For almost 30 years, I have been armed and charmed with Cynthia.
She is the reason my heart still beats," he concluded his speech. "From the Desiderata, 'You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here.
Therefore, be at peace with God, and whatever your labor and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. It is still a beautiful world. My prayer for us is that we all choose love.'
Thank you."

The 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony airs on Disney+ starting at 8 p.m. EST on Nov. 8. ABC will also air a primetime special on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, with streaming available on Hulu the next day.
