I’ve had smart lighting in my home for years. It’s actually become quite the obsession for me. I love making all the lights change colors with special events and the different seasons. Years ago when I started adding light installations to my home, there were only one or two options available for strip lights that were app-controlled and there were no lights that were specifically for TVs.

Today, the smart lighting landscape has changed quite a bit and now, I have several TVs lit with smart LED strips. I recently upgraded the TV in my office to a 75-inch Smart TV from HiSense and I needed a new light strip for it. So, I added the Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro.

What Makes a TV Backlight different from a standard smart strip?

While both TV backlights and standard smart light strips use LED technology to create colorful effects, their purposes and performance differ. A TV backlight is specifically designed to enhance on-screen content, providing adaptive lighting that reacts to what you watch or play. It often includes a camera or sync box that captures the colors displayed on your screen and mirrors them in real time, creating a more immersive viewing experience.

In contrast, a standard smart strip offers static or programmable lighting for general ambiance. It can set the mood of a room, accent furniture, or outline decor, but it doesn’t dynamically sync with video or audio content. TV backlights also tend to include calibration tools, improved brightness control, and features to reduce eye strain, making them more specialized for entertainment setups.

Govee has an extensive lineup of TV backlights tailored to different viewing setups and budgets. Their range includes the entry-level Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite, offering fish-eye correction and streamlined feature set; the mid-tier Govee Envisual TV Backlight T2 with dual cameras and enhanced LED density; and the flagship Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro, featuring a triple-lens HDR camera system, upgraded strip brightness, and full smart-home integration. In addition to the light strips, Govee also offers light bars, kits, and the Govee AI Sync Box Kit 2.

About Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro

The Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro is the most advanced ambient lighting kit in Govee’s lineup, created to transform the way you experience movies, games, and shows. It pairs a high-density RGBWWIC LED strip with a triple-lens HDR camera system to produce rich, immersive lighting that mirrors the action on your screen.

    Key Features

HDR Triple-Camera Color Matching: Three precision cameras work together to capture screen colors with exceptional accuracy, even in scenes that blend bright highlights with deep shadows. The system’s wide dynamic range of roughly 105 dB ensures detailed color transitions and realistic on-screen reflections. Brighter, Denser LED Strip: The lighting strip features 75 LEDs per meter, providing about 30 percent more brightness than earlier versions. Its output reaches around 337 lumens per meter, giving it a strong visual impact even in rooms with moderate lighting. Advanced Color Hardware and AI Mixing: A 16-bit control chip drives individual RGB, warm white, and cool white channels for smoother gradients and better white balance. The built-in AI color mixing engine fine-tunes tone and saturation for a natural, cinematic look. Smart Home and Ecosystem Ready: The Backlight 3 Pro works with Matter, Alexa, and Google Assistant, and it connects easily to Govee’s DreamView system. You can sync other Govee products to match your TV lighting for a unified room experience. Two Size Options: Kits are available for 55-65-inch and 75-85-inch TVs, ensuring consistent coverage across different screen sizes. Simple Setup and Control: The Govee Home app walks you through camera calibration and lighting adjustments. Users can choose from modes like Solid, Vivid, Smooth, or Delicate to match their preferred level of reactivity.

This backlight kit delivers a bright, responsive, and intelligent lighting experience that complements any modern home theater or gaming setup.

    Pricing & Availability

The Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro is available in two different lengths 55-65″ ($179.99) and 75-85″ ($209.99). It can be purchased through us.govee.com or Amazon.

    User Experience

The backlight comes in a Govee-branded box with an image of a TV on the front. Since we have a 75-inch TV, we have the 75-85 inch option. The front of the box shows the compatibility with Google Home and Alexa, but it’s also compatible with Matter, which means it will work with Home as well. The kit comes with the light strip, a camera, control box, power adapter, light strip clips, a quick start guide, user manual and orange foam for calibration. The light strip looks like a standard strip when you get up close to it.

Installing the Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro was a smooth process from start to finish. I began by lining up the end of the light strip with the bottom left corner of the TV where the power cable connects. From there, I positioned the strip about a quarter of an inch from the TV’s edge and slowly removed the protective backing while pressing the lights into place.

Doing it little by little helped keep the strip as straight as possible. Ideally, this installation is best done before mounting the TV on the wall, but since mine was already mounted, I carefully worked around that limitation. Even though I couldn’t see the bottom edge directly, the strip laid flat and aligned well, which gave me confidence that it was mostly straight.

Once the strip was secure, I attached the camera to the center of the screen. The new mount design is a big improvement over previous versions. It feels solid and balanced, similar to a light bar on a monitor. The camera sits firmly in place without wobbling or shifting, unlike the lightweight mount from the earlier model. After connecting both the camera and light strip to the control box and plugging it into power, the lights immediately turned on and began cycling through colors, signaling a successful connection.

With the hardware installed, I opened the Govee app on my iPhone and pressed the plus sign to add a new device. The app instantly detected the TV Backlight 3 Pro and prompted me to press the button on the control box to complete pairing. Within seconds, the backlight was fully connected and ready to use. The setup process was fast, intuitive, and required no troubleshooting.

Coming from the Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite, I noticed a major improvement right away. The Backlight 3 Pro is noticeably brighter and delivers richer, more vibrant colors. Its HDR triple-camera color-matching system captures the on-screen visuals with incredible accuracy, outperforming every other camera-based backlight I’ve tested. The only system that offers more precise results is one that connects directly to a video source through HDMI passthrough.

What stood out most was the variety of lighting themes and the ease of activating the entertainment mode that syncs to the TV screen. I tested it first with Snoopy-themed Apple TV screensavers, then with Finding Nemo and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2—both movies filled with vivid color and motion. The backlight kept up flawlessly, translating every hue and scene change into a stunning, immersive light show that filled the room. It felt like the visuals extended beyond the TV, turning ordinary viewing into a cinematic experience.

    Conclusion

The Govee TV Backlight 3 Pro delivers an impressive combination of performance, precision, and style. From setup to everyday use, the system feels refined and reliable, offering a noticeable upgrade from previous Govee models. For anyone looking to add immersive lighting to a modern home theater setup, this backlight kit stands out as one of the best options available today.
