What a Difference a Year Makes, Giants Break Out Their Throwbacks, NFL Media Notes, and Other Bears Bullets

It has been a while since I felt this good on a Friday. Let’s keep the good vibes going!

When the Chicago Bears and New York Giants square off this weekend, it will be a classic uniform matchup with the G-Men rocking these fits:

    — New York Giants (@Giants) November 5, 2025 We have seen the return of some classic uniform combos this season around the NFL. The Broncos with their orange tops. Creamsicle Bucs. Vintage Seahawks blue. It hurts to think about how overzealous designers have done a number on American pro sports jerseys by trying to fix what wasn’t broken. And for what? To sell a few more jerseys? What these boardrooms need are down-to-earth people who can tell a higher-up “no, that isn’t a good idea.” Of course, they’d need that exec to listen and I’m not sure that is in the cards. In any case, I love a Sunday noon start with a vintage uni showdown.

The Giants are a bit of a mess right now, but it’s not as if they aren’t without talent. One of my favorite weekly reads is when the folks at Bears Wire share a player on the opposing team they’d want on Chicago’s football team. This week’s player is a gimme with edge defender Abdul Carter being the pick to click. Carter doesn’t have much in the stat department to this point with just 0.5 sacks, 1 tackle-for-loss, and 8 quarterback hits in 9 games. But his prospect status and positional fit on a Bears team desperate for pass rush help make him an easy choice. Mandatory Credit: Matthew O’Haren-Imagn Images With that being said, this wouldn’t be such an easy decision if everyone on the Giants were healthy. Could you imagine what a Bears offense could look like with a three-headed running back monster featuring D’Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai, and Cam Skattebo? Quarterback Caleb Williams wouldn’t even need to throw. What about adding Malik Nabers to Chicago’s collection of receivers? Sure, that room would be crowded. But wouldn’t you trust Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson to figure out how to keep everyone happy? The Tribune’s Brad Biggs (via Twitter/X) shares news that FOX is sending its No. 2 broadcast team of Joe Davis, Greg Olsen, and Pam Oliver to call Sunday’s Bears-Giants game. Hey, at least Davis isn’t bringing John Smoltz with him! What a difference a year can make:

    — FOX Sports: NFL (@NFLonFOX) November 5, 2025 A random NFL thought: The Bo Nix-led Denver Broncos remind me of the Mitchell Trubisky-led 2018 Chicago Bears. Take that for whatever it is worth. Elsewhere in Colorado, the Rockies are reportedly hiring Cleveland Browns exec Paul DePodesta as their new president of baseball operations. I bet Paul saw the Bears coming up on their schedule and wanted to get out before Ben Johnson’s offense put 50 on his head. Can you blame him? As the battle between YouTube TV and Disney rages on, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio points out that the most recent installment of Monday Night Football saw a year-over-year drop in audience by 21.4 percent. I imagine that number will get floated in negotations. And while I’d like to think that the two sides will iron out a deal before this Monday’s upcoming matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, I can’t rule out the stubbornness of billion-dollar entities who seem to have no qualms holding loyal customers hostage. The Athletic reports that Drew Brees is joining FOX as an NFL game analyst, potentially replacing Mark Sanchez. I didn’t think much of Brees’ broadcasting prowess when he was at NBC. And he didn’t move the needle for me as a fan during his brief stint at ESPN. This isn’t to say that he can’t improve or find his lane. I hope he does. Football broadcasts are better when big names know ball and can share their knowledge with an audience that wants to know more. It’s just that I have my doubts. In any case, best of luck to Drew in this new endeavor.
