FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Businesses in Fairport are celebrating the reopening of Main Street, which has been closed since April due to construction over Thomas Creek.
The street reopens at 3 p.m. on Friday, restoring full access through the heart of the village. Back in August, News10NBC spoke with Fairport business owners about how the construction impacted them and the challenges that customers had with finding parking.
Doug Sharp, President of the Fairport Perinton Merchants Association, said the village’s businesses have “shouldered significant challenges due to reduced access and traffic.” He said the reopening means the community will be connected once more.
There’s still work being done on the sidewalks of Main Street, but the road will remain accessible. Several shops and restaurants will offer promotions throughout the day on Friday to celebrate the opening.
