(KRON) -- Air passengers in the Bay Area and beyond braced for the worst Friday morning as sweeping Federal Aviation Administration service cuts went into effect.
The Federal Aviation Administration‘s unprecedented order to scale back flights nationwide because of the record-long government shutdown took effect, with some passengers scrambling to figure out backup travel plans.
The 40 airports selected by the FAA span more than two dozen states and include hubs such as Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the order. In the Bay Area, San Francisco International Airport and Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport were both among the 40 designated by the FAA.
