Live updates: Senate to vote Friday on new deal to end shutdown

The Senate on Friday will vote again on the House-passed GOP continuing resolution in an effort to bring about an end to the government shutdown.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is bringing it to the floor, however, with the aim to amend it and attach a three-bill spending package, which has been part of negotiations with Democrats.

This would also include a new end date, changing it from Nov. 21 until some time in January, per a GOP aide. The package would likely take days to clear the upper chamber due to objections, possibly on both sides of the aisle.

The government shutdown on Thursday hit a new record of 37 days, as millions of Americans are poised to feel the heat after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced it will reduce flights amid the ongoing shortage of air traffic controllers.

Here's the preliminary list of affected airports.

In other news, Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced on that she will not seek reelection after serving for nearly four decades in the lower chamber.

Later today, Trump will gather with leaders from five Central Asian countries at the White House. He announced a deal on weight loss drugs this afternoon.
