University of Rhode Island vs Providence College

November 5th, 2025 Providence, Rhode Island – Taylor Natatorium SCM (25 meters) Results Final Score: URI Women: 150 Providence Women: 131

The latest iteration of the in-state rivalry between the URI Rams women and the Providence College Friars women took place last night in Providence, and it was a barnburner.

The meet, held in Taylor Natatorium, was contested in short course meters.

The meet marked the 31st time the two schools have dueled. In the 20 times the schools have met since 2005, Providence College has only managed one victory against the Rams, which occurred in 2023. For the majority of last night’s meet, it looked like they were going to achieve their second.

The Friars started off the meet red hot, breaking a 33-year-old School Record in the first event, the 400 medley relay. The team of Bella Lombard, Lauren Wagner, Annie Gathof, and Natalie Robak stopped the clock in 4:24.93, besting the 1993 record of 4:26.45.

Elizabeth Burke, a junior, then led off a series of individual wins for the Friars. She clocked 2:08.73 to take first in the 200 free, a three-and-a-half second personal best. Providence junior Bella Lombard followed that up by cutting a second off her lifetime best in the 50 back, clocking 30.76 to win the event.

Junior Lauren Wagner made it four event victories in a row for Providence, registering a winning time of 35.05 in the 50 breast and improving her season-best time by two-tenths of a second.

Molly Beckwith, a freshman, delivered URI their first event win of the meet in the 100 fly, producing a time of 1:03.81 in her first official 100 butterfly in short course meters. Rylie Foley, however, immediately fired back for Providence, with the senior winning the 50 free in an in-season best of 27.90.

URI senior Rylee Kelley shaved three-tenths of a second from her personal best in the 100 free, earning the Rams their second event win with a time of 1:00.14. The Friars, however, denied the Rams any momentum and proceeded to win the next three events.

Lombard registered her second individual event win of the meet, clocking 1:05.22 to place first in the 100 back, a half-second personal best. Wagner then repeated the feat, clocking 1:14.89 to win the 100 breast and sweep the breaststroke events.

Burke next became the third two-time individual event winner for Providence, winning the 400 free with a time of 4:39.15, an in-season best of over three seconds.

The Friars had won eight out of the first 11 events of the meet and held a 117-89 lead. They were just four events away from securing the second victory against URI in their program’s history. The Rams’ depth, however, had kept them within striking distance.

The next event, the 50 fly, saw a 1-2-3 finish from the URI women. Beckwith led them into the wall, clocking 29.24 to sweep the butterfly events. The gap was then further shrunk by URI divers led by senior Olivia Winslow, who turned in a 1-2-3 result in the 3m event.

In two events, the Friars’ lead had shrunk from 28 to a meager two points.

The Rams rode their newfound momentum to the finish. Julianna Tyler, a junior, clocked 1:08.52 in the 100 IM to lead a URI 1-2 into the wall. The Rams now had a six-point lead.

Molly Beckwith, Rylee Kelley, Chloe Robinson, and Emma Bertotto closed the show for URI. They produced a time of 4:00.58 in the 400 free relay, taking first in a URI 1-2 and trouncing Providence’s fastest relay by five seconds.

The race completed URI’s comeback. The final score of the meet was 150-131 in favor of the Rams.
