King Charles, 76, Offers Health Update While Making Comment About Dropping Dead

King Charles is subtly hinting at certain health issues he's dealt with while visiting veterans.

The reigning monarch was in good spirits while at a medical centre in London, joking about what happens when people "drop dead."

Chatting with ex-army personnel at Chatfield Health Care, who were making use of the facility's specialist services for veterans, he met with a man named David Wiggins.

The man's left arm was in a cast after he came off his bike in Richmond Park, fracturing his elbow and wrist. "Are they keeping that under control? I'm so glad," the King said, per Hello! When asked if it was "mending slowly," Wiggins shared that he had three plates in his arm, which prompted a response on his own health from King Charles: "I've got endless plates and screws in my arm as well."

The comment was in reference to his breaking his arm in 1990, which required a secret, three-hour surgery and left him hospitalized for a week.

After divulging his own similar health situation to Wiggins, he comically quipped, "All that's left of you when you drop dead is 'Made in Switzerland.'"

During the visit, Charles also expressed concern for veterans battling PTSD, as he wondered how big a problem it still is.

"Unfortunately, compared to the general population, veterans are more likely to get PTSD. It's not the biggest, but it's a major issue. They won't present to the GP saying, 'I was in Afghanistan, I've got PTSD.' They'll say, 'I've got a headache, or I'm tired all the time.' The GP has to ask that question, 'Did you ever serve in the Armed Forces?' and then they'll tell them everything," Brigadier Robin Simpson expressed.

As for King Charles, though he may not suffer with military-related PTSD, he has presented several other health issues over the past several years.

Most notably, royal spectators have kept a watchful eye since his cancer diagnosis was announced by Buckingham Palace in February 2024. Specifics regarding the type, stage, or treatments have not been widely communicated publicly.

However, Prince Harryvisited his father for the first time in 19 months in September, noting that throughout the coming year, “the focus really has to be on my dad” amid his illness.
