Kelly Ripa responded to a neighbor’s unexpected complaint with a surprising and candid reply.
The Live with Kelly & Mark host shared her latest Halloween experience with trick-or-treaters, saying she had tried to stock enough candy for all the children who visited the New York home she shares with husband and co-host Mark Consuelos. Still, she admitted she was unprepared for just how many kids showed up.
"We ran out of candy twice and had to reorder on the fly," Ripa told the Live With Kelly & Mark audience as reported by E! News. That's when she shared a surprising reply to a neighbor's complaint about her generosity.
"Interestingly enough, yesterday a woman came up to me and sort of lodged a complaint that we ran out [of candy] early. An adult woman!" Ripa revealed.
The talk show host added that the woman asked, "What happened to your candy this year? You ran out." Ripa asked her, "What time did you come?" She responded, "Around 8:30 at night."
That's when she politely responded that by that time of the night, candy distribution was "over." She added, "You'll have to come earlier next year."
Ripa revealed that she and her husband are overly generous when it comes to Halloween candy. The couple gives out full-sized bars of treats, but revealed that there are still some children who aren't happy. To get around this issue, Ripa explained that she now puts two candy bars in tied bags, so there are no complaints.
