A 62-year-old man is in the Weld County Jail after sheriff’s office deputies found him sleeping under a desk Monday morning at the Weld County Public Health Department Building.
The man, who the Tribune is choosing not to name pending charges officially being filed, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal tampering, petty theft and petty criminal mischief, according to a Weld County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Just after 7:15 a.m., a caller reported a door to the health department building, 1555 N. 17th Ave., was propped open and a man was running on the second floor, the release states.
Deputies searched the office using K-9s, but they did not find anybody in the building, the release states. During the search, deputies noted that items had been strewn across the floor in some of the offices, according to the release.
“So far, no one in our investigation has reported any stolen personal health records,” Weld County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Officer Melissa Chesmore said in an email. “However, employees of the health department are still checking into this.”
Twenty minutes after deputies left, someone found the man sleeping under a desk.
Deputies did not originally search the office because it was locked, the release states.
