UNC’s Isabel Boere scored a tiebreaking goal with 7:23 remaining in the fourth quarter to help the Tar Heels beat Louisville 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Field Hockey Tournament Tuesday. The Cardinals are hosting the tournament, making Tuesday’s contest a true road game for Carolina.

The 2-1 final score belied a statistically dominant game from the No. 1 seed Tar Heels, who outshot the No. 8 seed Cardinals 20-2 overall and limited them to only one shot on target. Unfortunately for Carolina, that one shot found the back of the UNC cage two minutes into the third quarter, tying the game at 1-1 after a Reese Anetsberger goal gave the Tar Heels the lead in the second quarter.
UNC continued to control play for the rest of the half, but didn’t retake the lead for more then 20 minutes after Louisville’s tying goal. Finally, Boere found the breakthrough with a direct shot off of a penalty corner for her eighth goal of her freshman season.

The Tar Heels will now advance to the ACC Tournament semifinals and will face either No. 4 seed Duke or No. 5 seed Cal Wednesday at 1 p.m. Carolina is 17-1 overall and seeking its ninth consecutive ACC Tournament championship.
