Pasadena City Manager Miguel Márquez announces retirement

Pasadena City Manager Miguel Márquez this week announced that he will be retiring to focus on family during a time of significant personal need, according to the city.

He said in a statement that after his father’s passing Márquez needed to be there for his family.

“Serving the people of Pasadena has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Márquez said in a statement. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I’m grateful for the trust and support of the City Council, our dedicated staff, and this remarkable community.”

He said he’s leaving the city in a stable fiscal position. Marquez oversaw the passage of measures to support the Central Library retrofit project, investment to improve city streets and led the comprehensive response and recovery following the devastation of January’s windstorm and Eaton fire.

Márquez began working for the city in 2022 following a stint as Chief Operating Officer of Santa Clara County and serving as an Associate Justice of California’s Sixth District Court.

“While Miguel’s departure is a significant loss for our City, we fully support his decision to prioritize his family,” said Mayor and Chief Executive Officer, Victor Gordo. “We are deeply grateful for his service and the example he has set of selfless, principled leadership.”

Márquez will continue to serve as city manager until a permanent replacement is appointed, according to the city.
