IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — The Brain Injury Association of New York State hosted a seminar on concussion education at Eastridge High School in Irondequoit on Monday night.
The seminar aimed to educate parents, coaches, and educators about the dangers of leaving concussions untreated and how students with a concussion should be treated.
“Some teachers maybe don’t recognize a concussion is a significant injury,” said Kate Grant, sports medicine physician at Rochester Regional Health. “I tell my athletes it’s an injury like anything else, so if you had two broken wrists and you were wearing a cast and you couldn’t take notes, someone would help you.”
One of the seminar’s key takeaways is that, if your kid is doing alright after a concussion, get them back in the swing of things. That means school, clubs, and jobs, not just sitting at home on a screen.
