The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where they died from sustained injuries, police said.
Additional details about the collision were not immediately available Monday evening.
“This investigation is active and ongoing,” police said.
The death marks the city’s 34th traffic fatality of the year. San Jose had recorded 44 deaths at the same point in 2024.
Police asked motorists to avoid the area, noting that First Street from Martha Street to Virginia Street “will be blocked off in both directions for a significant amount of time.”
