The band was formed in 1976 in New York City by vocalist Lou Gramm, guitarist Mick Jones, bassist Ed Gagliardi, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood, and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald. Throughout the decades, the band has released nine studio albums. Despite never having won a Grammy, the iconic band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.
Members have come and gone since the band's inception, most recently lead vocalist Kelly Hansen announced his decision to walk away.
"I'm trying not to use the word retirement. I don't even know what that means,” he told People in October, after spending 20 years with Foreigner. "I'm not looking for future work. I'm so fortunate to be able to make that choice."
Current members include Mick Jones, Jeff Pilson Michael Bluestein, Bruce Watson, Chris Frazier, and Luis Maldonado -- who took over lead vocals after Hansen's departure.
