It’s the start of the second month of the regular season for hockey players all over the globe, so it’s a great time for us to re-assess our rankings of the Chicago Blackhawks top prospects.
The start of the new year has been outstanding for young Blackhawks players at every level. The youth movement in the NHL has been terrific, but the Blackhawks also have skaters in leagues in Russia, Sweden and all over North America putting up spectacular numbers early this season.
Before we get into ranking the Blackhawks’ top prospects, an update to our list. I am officially graduating Sam Rinzel, Artyom Levshunov and Ryan Greene from the “prospect” ranks. Each has shown they’re an every-night NHL player at this point in the season with the Blackhawks. Those three joining Connor Bedard, Frank Nazar, Colton Dach, Wyatt Kaiser, Alex Vlasic and Landon Slaggert have made the Blackhawks a younger, faster team this year — and it’s showing well in the results early on.
With that being said, let’s jump into ranking the top 20 prospects in the Blackhawks’ pipeline as we begin November. The stats I’m including are from EliteProspects.
Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesBlackhawks Top Prospects
1. Anton Frondell, C/W
6-2, 204Shoots: LeftAcquired: 1st round (No. 3) — 2025 NHL DraftSIGNED
The Blackhawks’ top pick in the 2025 NHL Draft is off to a terrific start at the highest level in Sweden. He has the body to play in the NHL now and is getting this year of additional development to play with and against men in the SHL. He’s already signed his entry-level contract, so I would expect him to be in play for the Blackhawks’ roster in training camp next year.
2. Nick Lardis, RW
6-0, 170Shoots: LeftAcquired: 3rd round (No. 67) — 2023 NHL DraftSIGNED
After putting up a historic 71 goals in the OHL last year, there were doubters who openly questioned whether or not his game would translate to the professional ranks. Well, entering Monday, Lardis leads all AHL rookies with 13 points. His skating is good, and he’s actually showing more of a playmaking side to his game than strictly looking to score so far in Rockford. Lardis is off to a great start with the IceHogs.
3. Oliver Moore, C/LW
5-11, 188Shoots: LeftAcquired: 1st round (No. 19 overall) — 2023 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Tampa in the B. Hagel trade)SIGNED
Moore’s numbers at Minnesota led to some concerns from Blackhawks fans that the offense wasn’t there. When you add a little context and understand Moore was used in a variety of roles by the Gophers coaches, it quiets some of the questions. But there were still some that wondered if he could finish at the pro level(s). Entering Monday, Moore leads all AHL rookies with six goals — and none of those has come on the power play. He’s finishing, and his elite speed is keeping opposing coaches up at night. A great start with the IceHogs for Moore as well.
4. Roman Kantserov, RW
5-9, 176Shoots: LeftAcquired: 2nd round (No. 44) — 2023 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Ottawa in Zaitsev trade)
Kantserov is a tantalizing prospect who has become a bit of an urban legend because of what we’ve heard and seen of his skill while playing in Russia. This season, he’s crushing it in the KHL. He scored his league-leading 14th goal on Monday morning and looks like he could be a dangerous offensive threat when he comes over to North America. I shared his comments about making a decision about the NHL after this KHL season ends over the weekend.
5. Kevin Korchinski, LHD
6-1, 185Shoots: LeftAcquired: 1st round (No. 7) — 2022 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Ottawa in A. DeBrincat trade)SIGNED
Korchinski’s development will continue to be scrutinized because the Blackhawks selected him seventh overall and some feel he was rushed to the NHL — where he spent his age-19 season on a blue line that was demolished by injuries. He’s playing a more mature game this season and enters Monday ranked second among all AHL defensemen with eight assists. He’s off to a solid start with Rockford as well.
6. Marek Vanacker, LW
6-1, 174Shoots: LeftAcquired: 1st round (No. 27) — 2024 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Carolina in pick swap)SIGNED
In his post-draft season last year, Vanacker got a late start because of summer shoulder surgery and still managed to put up 42 points in 45 regular-season games. This year, Vanacker has taken over the top line role and responsibilities vacated by Lardis turning pro and has been magnificent. He enters Monday leading the OHL with 15 goals; the three guys behind him have played four and three more games, respectively. Vanacker is showing the dominant power forward game that Brantford ownership bragged about during training camp.
7. Sacha Boisvert, C
6-2, 180Shoots: LeftAcquired: 1st round (No. 18) — 2024 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Islanders in pick swap)
The one Blackhawks prospect in our top ten who hasn’t enjoyed terrific success to start the new year has been Boisvert, who transferred out of North Dakota after being named the NCHC rookie of the year to take on the challenge of being the top-line center at BU in Hockey East. He still has five points in six games, but has dealt with injuries already. I’m not down on his stock at this point, and the college season is still young.
8. Václav Nestrašil, RW
6-6, 185Shoots: RightAcquired: 1st round (No. 25) — 2025 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Toronto in McCabe trade)
Nestrašil was a helium prospect at the 2025 NHL Draft and the Blackhawks grabbed him at No. 25 overall, which raised a few eyebrows. He was considered a relatively unrefined prospect who played in a lower level Czech league before coming over to the USHL late in the 2023-24 season. Well, Nestrašil is showing that the stock rising was for good reason thus far at UMass. He leads all NCAA freshman with seven goals already in only nine games. He’s got the size and skating to be a difference maker as a pro, and he’s showing a meteoric development curve.
9. Nathan Behm, RW
6-2, 192Shoots: RightAcquired: 3rd round (No. 66) — 2025 NHL Draft
There was buzz before the 2025 NHL Draft that Behm’s stock was rising after a good run with Kamloops that saw him score 31 goals in 59 games last season. But, somehow, he fell to the Blackhawks early in the third round. If the returns thus far in his post-draft season are any indication, Behm might be one of the steals of his draft class. He enters Monday tied for fourth in the WHL with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 16 games. Like Vanacker, he plays a power forward game and can skate. There’s a lot to like with Behm’s game.
10. Ethan Del Mastro, LHD
6-4, 210Shoots: LeftAcquired: 4th round (No. 105) — 2021 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Vancouver in M. Bowey trade)SIGNED
Del Mastro and Allan, who’s next on our list, are probably both ready for the NHL right now. The problem for both is the Blackhawks are already skating seven defensemen every night. Del Mastro is a physical defenseman who is willing to block shots and play the body. And his six assists thus far are tied for sixth among all AHL defensemen.
11. Nolan Allan, LHD
6-2, 195Shoots: LeftAcquired: 1st round (No. 32) — 2021 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Columbus in S. Jones trade)SIGNED
Allan is a defensive defenseman who hits and blocks shots. He missed some time in concussion protocol already this season, but is probably a guy who could be in the NHL right now as well. The back of his hockey card will probably never blow you away, but his game isn’t defined by goals and assists.
12. Drew Commesso, G
6-2, 180Acquired: 2nd round (No. 46) — 2020 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Vegas in M. Subban trade)SIGNED
Commesso is in a fascinating position this year. He’s off to a nice start. He’s developing nicely. There’s a lot to like about Commesso, who got a taste of the NHL last year for the first time. But… he’s a restricted free agent in 2026 and there are three other goalies in the system who are signed thru/beyond next year. With Spencer Knight appearing to be the present and future in Chicago, it will be interesting to see how the year progresses for Commesso in Rockford.
13. AJ Spellacy, C/W
6-2, 195Shoots: RightAcquired: 3rd round (No. 72) — 2024 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Ottawa in DeBrincat trade)SIGNED
Spellacy has been seeing increasing use at the dot with Windsor in recent weeks and has been improving. He’s won 48.2 percent of 220 faceoffs entering Monday; he’s taken 92 faceoffs (and won 45 — 48.9 percent) in his last five games. The points aren’t where some might want, but he’s playing a strong all-around game for the Spitfires thus far.
14. Adam Gajan, G
6-2, 180Acquired: 2nd round (No. 35) — 2023 NHL Draft
Gajan struggled with injuries as a college freshman last year, and his stock dipped. He’s healthy this year, and he’s led Minnesota-Duluth to a great start to their season. Before allowing eight goals in two games at North Dakota this past weekend, Gajan had only allowed ten total goals in his first eight games of the season (including one shutout at Minnesota). He’s among the top goaltenders in the NCAA entering November and his arrow is back to pointing up.
15. Jack Pridham, RW
6-1, 176Shoots: RightAcquired: 3rd round (No. 92) — 2024 NHL Draft
Pridham might be the prospect in the Blackhawks’ pipeline who fascinates me the most. He started last year in the BCHL because he was committed to Boston University. When the NCAA changed its rules regarding the CHL, he made the move to Kitchener and was fantastic. Then, instead of going to BU this year, he opted to stay with Kitchener. He can fly, has good hands and he’s a finisher. Pridham is off to a good start and the door isn’t closed on the BU option.
16. Mason West, C
6-6, 218Shoots: RightAcquired: 1st round (No. 29) — 2025 NHL Draft* (pick acq. from Carolina in pick swap)
The only prospect for whom I’m not including stats at this point is West, because he’s still playing football in the Minnesota state high school playoffs. He’s a big center with a wicked release and knows how to use his body to create space. He’s committed to Michigan State for the 2026-27 season and will join Fargo in the USHL when his gridiron career comes to a close.
17. John Mustard, C/W
6-1, 185Shoots: LeftAcquired: 3rd round (No. 67) — 2024 NHL Draft
Mustard is another potential third-round steal for the Blackhawks. He brings elite speed to the ice, and has taken a step forward with his production already as a sophomore at Providence. Mustard has already scored five goals in seven appearances this season for the Friars, almost matching the seven he scored as a freshman in 37 games last year.
18. Ilya Kanarsky, G
6-3, 192Acquired: 7th round (No. 194) — 2025 NHL Draft
Kanarsky was a seventh-round pick this past summer as a 20-year-old (he’ll turn 21 on Dec. 6) and is off to a great start in the VHL, the second-tier league in Russia. There are some scouts who think he could emerge as a bona fide NHL starter down the road. He’s a lottery ticket that might cash at some point, which is exciting and worth watching.
19. Stanislav Berezhnoy, G
6-4, 218Acquired: signed as free agentSIGNED
Berezhnoy, 22, signed as a free agent this summer and looked really good in training camp and the prospect showcase games in Minnesota. He’s a big goalie who’s still young enough that watching him this season in Rockford will be interesting. The Blackhawks giving Berezhnoy a two-year deal is one of the factors that complicates projecting Commesso’s future. It’s also noteworthy that this is the first time I have had more than two goalies in our top 20 Blackhawks prospects — and we’ve got four now.
20. Taige Harding, LHD
6-7, 235Shoots: LeftAcquired: 3rd round (No. 91) — 2021 NHL DraftSIGNED
The rumors are true: Harding is an enormous human being. But I was surprised at how well he skated and handled the puck during the preseason practices. He uses his body to take away space well and, let’s be honest, any time you can put a guy the size of an outside linebacker/defensive end on the ice it’s going to be a problem for opponents.
