You have not created history- Gautam Gambhirs unusual victory post for India women shocks

Former cricketer and current Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has showered praise on India’s women cricketers after their historic maiden ICC Women’s World Cup triumph. Gautam Gambhir said that the team has built a legacy that would motivate young girls across the country to pursue the sport.

India had suffered final defeats in 2005 and 2017. However, the Indian team secured their first-ever World Cup title in either the ODI or T20I formats. The Women in Blue, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated first-time finalists South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2.

Gautam Gambhir congratulated India’s World Cup-winning women’s team with a message on social media. He stated that they have created a lasting legacy that will inspire generations of young girls.

"You have not just created history, you've created a legacy that will inspire generations of girls!" Gautam Gambhir wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

India won the 13th Women’s ODI World Cup, joining an elite group of champions as only the fourth team to win the title after Australia (7), England (4), and New Zealand (1). Notably, India secured the victory despite not being counted among the favourites at the start of the tournament.

India Post 298 Runs After Being Asked to Bat First

India were asked to bat after South Africa chose to bowl first. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma set the tone with a 100-run opening stand. Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues took India to 166/2. Shafali scored 87 off 78 balls, with seven fours and two sixes.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma added a 52-run stand to push the total past 200. Richa Ghosh’s quickfire knock guided India to a competitive 298/7 in 50 overs. Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, returning figures of 3/58.

Harmanpreet Kaur scored 20 off 29 balls, with two fours, while Deepti added 58 off 58 balls, with three fours and a six. Richa Ghosh amassed 34 off 24 balls, with three fours and two sixes.

Shafali Verma Named Player of the Match in Final

South Africa began their chase with a half-century opening stand, but the early dismissal of Tazmin Brits halted their momentum. Laura Wolvaardt controlled the innings, but wickets from Shafali Verma and Shree Charani pushed the visitors into trouble at 148/5.

Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen then added 61 runs for the sixth wicket, reviving South Africa’s hopes. Wolvaardt scored 101 off 98 balls after her 169 in the semifinal.

Deepti Sharma produced a match-winning spell, removing both well-set batters and reducing South Africa to 221/8. She went on to claim a five-wicket haul, the first by an Indian woman in a World Cup final, as South Africa were bowled out for 246. Shafali won the Player of the Match award.
