India won the 13th Women’s ODI World Cup, joining an elite group of champions as only the fourth team to win the title after Australia (7), England (4), and New Zealand (1). Notably, India secured the victory despite not being counted among the favourites at the start of the tournament.

India were asked to bat after South Africa chose to bowl first. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma set the tone with a 100-run opening stand. Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues took India to 166/2. Shafali scored 87 off 78 balls, with seven fours and two sixes.

Shafali Verma Named Player of the Match in Final
South Africa began their chase with a half-century opening stand, but the early dismissal of Tazmin Brits halted their momentum. Laura Wolvaardt controlled the innings, but wickets from Shafali Verma and Shree Charani pushed the visitors into trouble at 148/5.
Wolvaardt and Annerie Dercksen then added 61 runs for the sixth wicket, reviving South Africa’s hopes. Wolvaardt scored 101 off 98 balls after her 169 in the semifinal.
Deepti Sharma produced a match-winning spell, removing both well-set batters and reducing South Africa to 221/8. She went on to claim a five-wicket haul, the first by an Indian woman in a World Cup final, as South Africa were bowled out for 246. Shafali won the Player of the Match award.
