There was never so much as an infield dribbler’s chance that Nico Hoerner wouldn’t win at second base, where he was the best-rated defender in every conceivable metric. The story was more or less the same in center field, where Pete Crow-Armstrong lapped the field in the NL.
For Happ, it was probably a closer call, but he has reputation on his side at this point. He’s been a great defender in left field for a long time, and now he has a fourth straight Gold Glove Award to show for it.
