He committed to Auburn on Aug. 8 of this year, before the Tigers’ season of misery began a few weeks later.
That misery continued on Saturday night with the loss to Kentucky that dropped Auburn to 4-5 overall and 1-5 in the SEC. Mathews will try to improve the situation on the Plains starting next fall.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Mathews is the 135th-ranked player in the Class of 2026, the 19th-ranked wideout in the class and the 6th-ranked player from the state of Mississippi.
