REPORT: Chicago Bears Will Be “Aggressive” at the NFL Trade Deadline

There has been speculation about what the Chicago Bears could (and even should) do at the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline, but there hasn’t been a ton of direct connection linking the team on the rumor mill.

But that just changed:

Glazer: Seahawks, Bears, 49ers, Cowboys, Eagles being aggressive during trade deadline.

CHICAGO BEARS NOTES — WEEK 9 GAME DAY EDITION

NFL on FOX insider Jay Glazer mentioned the Bears being among the list of teams that are “being aggressive” at the NFL Trade Deadline, which is at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. That’s fun!

The sourcing above is vague, so I am looking for a video clip that could shed some light and possibly provide some additional insight on what the team could be looking to do between now and the Nov. 4 deadline. In the meantime, it feels worth underscoring how plugged in Glazer has been with the Bears in recent years. The long-time NFL insider is one of the league’s most notable newsbreakers. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on as the rumor mill picks up speed ahead of the trade deadline.

What will the Chicago Bears do at the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline?

Having a 4-3 record going into Week 9 puts the Bears in an odd spot ahead of the trade deadline. Chicago’s football team is still building fron the tattered remains of what Matt Eberflus left behind. This team isn’t necessarily in a position to buy (because it isn’t in a win-now window) or sell (because it doesn’t seem to have a ton of assets you’d expect to be moved at the trade deadline). Hence, it is tough to peg what could be on their trade deadline to-do list.

And yet, I can see a scenario in which the team tinkers here and there in an attempt to field a competitive team down the stretch. So, in a way, I’m not surprised to see a report that the team will be “aggressive” at the deadline.

For what it’s worth, I found this passage from a recent piece by the Trib’s Brad Biggs to be both interesting and enlightening:

If there’s a move, it will probably would not be one that has your cellphone buzzing with alerts. It might look more like the one Poles made at the deadline a year ago when he sent running back Khalil Herbert to the Bengals for a seventh-round pick that turned into running back Kyle Monangai.

In the first season for coach Ben Johnson, this isn’t the time for the Bears to bundle future assets for what might amount to a role player. It’s unlikely there’s an edge rusher who can solve the team’s pass-rush dilemma, certainly not one available at a price the team is willing to meet. Franchise left tackles are not traded. With the linemen and backs finally syncing up, there’s no longer clamoring for the Bears to trade for a running back, and it’s not as if a bell-cow option is available.

Last year’s Khalil Herbert trade is the type of deal I expect the Bears to swing before the clock strikes midnight on the 2025 NFL Trade Deadline. Adding help on the margins for a late-round pick could be a heady move. We have seen Bears General Manager Ryan Poles collect late-round picks in trade backs on NFL Draft weekend, so I am not opposed to sending away a Day 3 pick now because there will be opportunities down the line to recoup those selections at a later date.

The NFL Trade Deadline has grown increasingly interesting since this site launched in 2017. That season saw eight trades go down, including a deal between the Bears and Chargers that sent wide receiver Dontrelle Inman to Chicago for a draft pick (which the Bears kept because the conditions that would have sent the pick out west never vested). Since 2017, we have seen 10+ trades between Oct. 1 and the NFL Trade Deadline six times — each happening in the last six season. With that in mind, perhaps the Bears won’t be the only team kicking the tires aggressively on potential deals. Stay tuned.
