Keeping the Streak Going, What Will the Knicks Adjust? Power Rankings, and Other Bulls Bullets

What a beautiful day to go undefeated!

Sitting alone at the top of the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls head to Madison Square Garden for Round 2 against the New York Knicks. To the surprise of many, they were in complete control against the reigning Eastern Conference Finals squad nearly the whole game. Everything that had been working in the four games prior continued against New York’s well-balanced, fully healthy rotation. Nevertheless, despite it being the same opponent tonight, a new test still awaits. The Bulls have yet to face off against a team for a second time this season. The shock value that comes with facing off against this high-paced and unselfish team will not be there today for the Knicks. They were punched in the mouth once, and they now understand just how hard Billy Donovan’s crew can hit. So how easily will they be able to adjust? Can they tap into something that halts the Bulls’ momentum, as well as something that other upcoming opponents can use to their advantage? If one thing is for sure, I expect Jalen Brunson and Co. to come out extremely motivated. With that said, I’m not exactly sure what the Knicks could drastically change. While they may look to approach the Josh Giddey assignment differently, it’s not like they didn’t play well as a whole at the United Center. Remember, what made the Bulls’ win so impressive is the fact that New York still outperformed them behind the arc and on the offensive glass. They even shot nearly 50.0 percent from the field! Typically, that is a recipe for success! Their main problem was sending the fact that the Bulls got to the free throw line 35 times! They finished +11 in this department, and they went 13-14 from the charity stripe alone in the final frame. Defending without fouling has likely been a huge point of discussion over the last 48 hours for Mike Brown. I have to give the Bulls a pretty big shoutout for their ball control over the last handful of games. Turnovers were a major concern coming out of the preseason, and this remained the case following a combined 38 turnovers in their first two games. Since then, however, the Bulls have decreased their mistakes in each of their last four games. They had a season-low nine turnovers against the Knicks. After starting near the top of the league, their turnover percentage is now only slightly below league average. And I’m cool with that! I’m willing to accept some turnover trouble, especially when we consider how fast this group plays and how much they move the ball. Legend Dirk Nowitzki summed up the team perfectly, while Blake Griffin made sure to point out that they have done all of this without Coby White. You love to see all the national attention for this crew!

The site released its first list of the season, and they still have Chicago in the bottom half of the NBA at No. 16. Look, I understand that the Bulls might still be destined to finish here, but how can you leave a 5-0 squad outside the Top 15 right now? Power rankings are fluid. There is no question that the Bulls have started the year as one of the NBA’s best, both on paper and through the eye test. They use a currently weak strength of schedule as a reason for their current ranking, but they have beaten four teams that came into the year with postseason expectations! Those four also each had their superstar on the court. I just don’t get it. Ayo Dosunmu and some other members of the team shared a look at their Halloween fun on Friday night. I have to be honest, the fact that they even had the energy to hit the town after dominating the Knicks is impressive.
