Heart Legend Nancy Wilson Honors Late Manager Who Inspired ‘Magic Man’

Nancy Wilson paid tribute to early Heart manager Mike Fisher two months after his death.

In an entry in her Something Good fan email, the legendary Heart guitarist and vocalist shared new song lyrics she wrote for Fisher, who was the brother of founding guitarist Roger Fisher and the former boyfriend of her sister and bandmate Ann. She also shared details on Heart's history with Fisher.

“[Mike Fisher] was the perfect catalyst for instigating and navigating with his sharp business brain to help our band get a foothold and a good start in the business of rock," Wilson shared with fans, per Ultimate Classic Rock. "He was a real task master in the best possible way and even designed the classic Heart logo that is still the best of them all to this day."

"Recently, his brother Roger Fisher let us know that sadly, Mike was in rapid decline suffering from pancreatic cancer," she continued. "I thought it would be a good thing for Mike to hear a voicemail where I could say thank you, for all the great things he did for the legacy of Heart and how it still is so vital and meaningful in rock history to this day. So I did. I heard back how much he loved and appreciated hearing that. It meant really a lot to him.”

“He left us too soon and I thought of a song to honor him,” Wilson added, before sharing lyrics to a new song, which appears to have a chorus of “Angel.” Wilson did not share the title of the song.

Ann Wilson dated Mike Fisher for most of the 1970s. In an interview with American Songwriter, she confirmed that Heart’s iconic 1975 song “Magic Man” was about Fisher and her decision to move from Seattle to Canada to be with him.

“It’s absolutely my leaving home song,” she confirmed. “My mother wasn’t all too sure that the best thing for me was to—even though I was already 21, she wasn’t sure that I should be jumping into this full-time sexual cohabitational relationship with somebody in a whole other country. And she was calling me, going, ‘What are you up to? C’mon, I don’t know if you should be going this. Come on back! Be careful, give it some thought!’ And I was just like, ‘Nope, nope, I’m gone! I’m in!’"

"And it was love at first sight that lasted for about eight years!" the singer added. "But ‘Magic Man’ was definitely written about the spell that I was under and my conversations with my mother about it at the time.“

Following Fisher’s death in August 2025, Ann posted a throwback photo from her time with him. "Michael lived life fully and loved completely,” she captioned the photo on Instagram. “Now he is taking his long journey to the next incarnation he always believed would come. He was a beautiful human…a profound soul….a divine spirit. Bon voyage, my old love."
