Few opinions hold more weight than 56-year-old Food Network chef Alex Guarnaschelli's when it comes to matters of cooking, but some fans are flabbergasted by her "controversial" kitchen takes shared on Nov. 1, 2025.
"I'm weighing in on America's most controversial and divisive cooking questions," the Alex Vs. America star said in a new video shared by Food Network. Perhaps the most shocking? She washes her cast iron pans, which is generally considered a cardinal sin in the cooking world.
"When my cast iron is dirty, especially with meat or bits of meat and animal grease and whatever, yes, I wash with soap and water," she admitted. "I scrub, I clean, I fully dry, and fully re-oil, and put that cast iron back all happy and pretty."

She answered a slew of other burning questions, revealing she doesn't like jarred minced garlic, doesn't mind pets in the kitchen as long as they stay on the ground, she would never break pasta, and she generally prefers not to rinse her rice. Another tip she shared may hold the secret to making your best-ever scrambled eggs at home: Add water, not milk, to "make them fluffy."
