TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals are certainly getting their money’s worth when it comes to their biggest offensive addition in backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
With Kyler Murray still dealing with a foot injury picked up in a Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans and failing to check the appropriate boxes at practice, Brissett is slated to make his third start in as many games on Monday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys.
Even before coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed that was the case on Saturday, all signs pointed to Brissett getting the rock once more.
And what an opportunity it is for Brissett to stack yet another strong offensive showing while potentially stoking the flames on Arizona’s quarterback conversation currently running rampant in the state.
As they say, “once is happenstance. Twice is a coincidence. Third is a pattern.”
Unlike his past two starts against two legit defenses in Green Bay and Indianapolis, Brissett gets his softest test of the season in a Dallas defense that has been absolutely atrocious this season.

Honestly, that might be putting it lightly.
Eight games in, the Cowboys are allowing the highest opposing passer rating (112) in the league while giving up a league-leading 20 touchdowns through the air.
And while Dallas isn’t dead last in total yards (404.6), passing yards (258.6) and points per game (31.3), they’re 31st in each category.
Those poor marks are against some questionable quarterbacks, too, including a now-benched Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Bryce Young.
Dallas’ pass rush has lagged behind, too, sitting in the bottom half of the league with 15 sacks.

Those horrendous numbers aside, Brissett is focused on one thing.

“I’m just trying to score one more point than they do and that’s it,” Brissett said on Saturday. “Get out of this thing with a win however it comes.”
Regardless of who is commanding the Cardinals offense, production is expected from a Cardinals offense that has put up some of its best 2025 numbers in recent weeks.
With Brissett manning QB, the Cardinals put up at least 23 points and 330 yards of total offense in each of the past two losses. Those marks hadn’t been hit across the five weeks prior with Murray at the helm.
Brissett himself has completed 65% of his throws for 599 yards and four touchdowns to one interception. He added another 45 yards and a fumble on nine carries.
The victories haven’t been there, but if Arizona (2-5) wants a shot at knocking off Dallas (3-4-1), keeping up with its high-powered offense is going to be key.
“That’s the ultimate goal is to win. I got to find a way to get over the hump and make it a win,” Brissett said.
Put together a third consecutive strong showing — let alone secure a win — and the conversations around who should be the Cardinals’ starting quarterback the rest of the way are going to increase tenfold.
At least from a performance standpoint, Brissett’s added time on task with Arizona’s primary pass catchers should help with that.

“It’s a continuous process throughout the year of trying to gain more reps with these guys and more continuity. Just trying to build that rapport with those guys and open the line of communication. I’m kind of doing it not on short weeks but without training cap rep with those guys.
“I’m kind of like doing it through trial and error in practice and then trying to beat the error before it happens type of deal. But those guys have been doing a good job … and making the most of their opportunities. We got a big challenge coming up this weekend and I’m hoping that it continues.”

Appearing in four Monday games across his career, Brissett is 2-2 with a pair of touchdowns and 655 yards through the air on 60.2% passing. He’s also ran for 34 yards and a score on 11 carries.
