ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A pee wee basketball league in Rochester is honoring the first African American to play in an NBA game, which was played in Rochester 75 years ago.
On Oct. 31, 1950, Earl Lloyd played for the Washington Capitols against the Rochester Royals at Edgerton Park Sports Arena. Lloyd was the first African American to play in an NBA game.
Now, 75 years later, the City of Rochester is honoring him by hosting the “R-Sports Earl Lloyd Pee Wee Basketball League.”
The league features 3-on-3 games for kids ages seven-nine every Saturday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. It began on Saturday, Oct. 25, and runs until Saturday, Nov. 22.
