ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – Section V football playoffs continued through rain, wind, and cold as a handful of teams were fortunate enough to move on to the next round.
In Class AA, only one game was played, but it was a doozy, with Penfield walking it off, 3-0 over Aquinas. Kicker Riley Johnson nailed a 36-yarder with five seconds to go, and moved the Patriots on to the Class AA semifinals.
“I knew that this was my chance to redeem myself and put the team on my back, and that’s just what I went out there and did,” said Johnson.
Penfield will play 1-seed Rush-Henrietta next.
In Class A1, the surprises continued. 6-seed Webster Schroeder took down 7-seed Victor 21-7, while 4-seed Brighton escaped 1-seed Irondequoit, 7-6. That sets up a Sectionals championship between the 6-seed Warriors and 4-seed Bruins.
In Class A2, East dominated Eastridge, 39-0 and will play the winner of Brockport and Canandaigua, who square off on Saturday.
