Catherine Cowles is celebrating after her 28th book, Secret Haven, made her a New York Times bestselling author for the first time in her career.
Secret Haven debuted at No. 9 on the paperback trade fiction list following the romantic suspense novel’s October 21 release. Cowles subsequently reacted in an emotional video shared via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, October 29.
“I am popping on here with some very, very exciting, dream-making news that Secret Haven hit the New York Timesbestseller list, and it is because of all of you, and I’m so incredibly grateful,” she told her followers through tears. “This has been a dream of mine pretty much since I became an author, and it couldn’t have happened, like, with a more special book with a more special reception from all of you. So I just want to say thank you and I love you. … I just couldn’t let this moment go by without just saying a huge thank you to all of you.”

The following day, Cowles reflected on the career milestone in an Instagram post.
“Being a writer, it’s not often that I’m struggling for words. But today? I’m struggling big time,” she wrote on Thursday, October 30. “It doesn’t feel like there are words in the English language to accurately describe my depth of gratitude for making my wildest author dream come true.”

She continued: “I made a list of goals and dreams when I started writing. Things like ‘have one person I don’t know buy my book’ or ‘get invited to a book signing.’ Hitting the New York Times bestseller list was at the very tippy top and I knew it was truly unhinged in terms of dreams. YOU MADE AN UNHINGED DREAM HAPPEN!!! This truly belongs to all of us!! And to SO SO MANY people behind the scenes.”
Secret Haven is the sixth and final book in Cowles’ Sparrow Falls series. The novel centers around Fallon Colson and Kyler Blackwood, who enter into a marriage of convenience that becomes all too real as danger lurks nearby.
Cowles got her start as an independent author before Casablanca Books acquired the Sparrow Falls series — which also includes Fragile Sanctuary, Delicate Escape, Broken Harbor, Beautiful Exile and Chasing Shelter — and the standalone novel All the Missing Pieces in 2024 for traditional publication.
While Secret Haven is Cowles’ seventh book to be traditionally published, it is the 28th book of her career. She previously independently released the Sutter Lake series, the Wrecked series, the Tattered and Torn series, the Lost and Found series and the standalone novel Further to Fall.
Next, Cowles will launch her new Starlight Grove series, with the first book, Across the Vanishing Sky, set to hit shelves in March 2026.
