Harvest Fest trunk-or-treat (Friday evening)
The Thurston Village Small Business Shops are holding a trunk-or-treat event and best costume contest on Friday. Harvest Fest runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on 216 Thurston Road. Adults will get a free travel-sized “treasure” and children will get treats. See the flyer here.
Grace Church trunk-or-treat (Friday evening)
Grace Church on 805 Blossom Road is hosting a neighborhood trunk-or-treat event indoors on Friday. It runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and all are welcome.
“Pumpkin Destruction Weekend” (Saturday and Sunday)
People will destroy pumpkins in all sorts of ways at Wickham Farms on Sweets Corners Road in Penfield. There will be Pumpkin Bowling, hands-on Pumpkin Smashing Stations, Pumpkin Painting, and more at the first-ever “Pumpkin Destruction Weekend”.
It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The highlight of the weekend will be The Great Pumpkin Drop on Saturday from 3 to 3 p.m. A giant pumpkin will be lifted high above the farm and dropped for an unforgettable fall finale. You can get tickets to Wickham Farms here.
East Avenue Grocery Run (Saturday)
A 1K, 5K, and 10K run on Saturday aims to raise at least $40,000 to fight food insecurity. The 16th annual Wegmans East Avenue Grocery Run is taking place on the day that SNAP benefits are expected to pause for over 135,000 people across the region, amid the government shutdown.
The 10K and 5K begin at 8 a.m. The 1K begins at 9:10 a.m. and there is also a virtual race option. You can register and see a course map here.
All week, News10NBC has been covering how local food pantries have been preparing and speaking to SNAP recipients about their worries. Foodlink, the Rochester-based regional foodbank that supports meal programs across 10 counties, says it has been preparing for weeks for an increase in demand. Boscov’s grand opening celebration (Thursday through Saturday)
It’s the countdown until Boscov’s cuts the ribbon on its new store at the Mall at Greece Ridge. To celebrate, the department store is hosting a three-day celebration that started on Thursday.
Friday is “Family Day.” The store will be open to everyone. There will be Peanuts-inspired giveaways and snacks, as Peanuts and the Gang hunt for the “Great Pumpkin.” From 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, people can take a photo with Snoopy.
There will also be an opportunity to get a photo with Snoopy on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday is the last day of the celebration. There will be a ribbon-cutting at 9:30 a.m. The ribbon will be made of $100 bills that will go to various local nonprofits.
The three-day celebration will wrap up with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. Saturday. People can tune into Brockport 89.1 “The Point” to hear synchronized music during the show as well. People should park on the Boscov’s, Barnes & Noble, and Target side of the mall. This will be the company’s 51st location and fifth location in New York.
