Ryan Seacrest is mourning the death of his father, Gary Lee Seacrest.
The American Idol host shared the sad news that his father had passed away earlier this week on social media. Taking to Instagram, Seacrest shared a carousel of family photos featuring him, Gary, his mom Constance, his sister, Meredith, and his niece, Flora, to reveal his father’s death.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week. My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering,” he began his caption.
Seacrest went on to end his message, “We are heartbroken. He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend. Dad you will live in our hearts forever. I love you. Ryan.”
Gary battled prostate cancer for years. This summer, Seacrest broke down during an interview as he discussed the latest setback in his father’s journey. The family thought the cancer was no longer detectable, but in July, Seacrest announced it had gotten worse.

The comments section of Seacrest’s Instagram post was flooded with prayers and condolences for the family.
