Fans across the rock world are mourning the death of musician Scott Sorry, born Gerard Engelter, who passed away on his 47th birthday, October 30, 2025, after a long and courageous fight with brain cancer.
In a statement posted to his official Instagram, his family shared the heartbreaking news:
“We’re heartbroken to share that Scott Sorry has passed away after a long and incredibly brave fight with brain cancer. Scott passed away on his 47th birthday, October 30th, 2025.
After being diagnosed with Glioblastoma back in 2018, Scott refused to let it define him. He outlived every doctor's expectation, turning months into years, and even made it back to the UK in 2022 for a tour — something that meant the world to him. He was so grateful to be able to play again, to see so many familiar faces and to personally thank so many of you that had supported him through it all.

We’re devastated beyond words, but there’s comfort in knowing he’s finally free from pain. His strength, humour, and heart will stay with us forever.
Scott is survived by his wife Hanni and his three children River, Ryder and Rörik.

Before joining the beloved British rock band The Wildhearts, Engelter played with U.S. punk outfit Amen for two years before departing in 2005 to become the bassist for Brides of Destruction, the short-lived supergroup that also featured Ginger Wildheart, according to the Metro UK newspaper.
With The Wildhearts, Sorry recorded several fan-favorite releases, including their self-titled 2007 album, an all-covers record in 2008, and C¡tzpäh! in 2009. He rejoined the band in 2014 after taking time off for family commitments.
When he had to later step away from a 20th-anniversary tour, he told fans with trademark honesty, “The only thing I love more than being a Wildheart is my family. But with much respect and a heavy heart I’m bowing out of my favourite band.”

‘Onwards and Upwards’
Even in the face of a devastating diagnosis, Sorry’s optimism never wavered. After undergoing surgery to remove a tumor in late 2017, he regularly updated fans with hopeful — and often humorous — posts.
On January 19, 2018, he wrote on Facebook:
“They call it Glioblastoma. It’s an incredibly tough-to-treat cancer. It’s scary s--t and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. But I’ve been scared before and I’m still here… I have this beautiful family, these amazing friends, and an incredible life that I’m going to fight my ass off for. I didn’t make it this far to lay down and cry… I’m taking this S.O.B. on full force.”
Three years later, he reflected on the milestone of survival:
“Today makes 3 years that they took that little bastard out of my head… 3 years later I’m training to race up Mt. Washington. I’m a lucky man and that is not lost on me in the least. Get out… live your life… love your life… create… take chances… don’t waste it. Onwards and Upwards y’all. Much Love x.”

Fellow musicians and fans flooded the comments of the announcement post with tributes.
Musician Krummi wrote, “Deeply saddened by this. My heartfelt and deepest condolences to his family and friends. You’ll be missed old friend ❤️?.”
