ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Teachers and employees of the Rochester City School District voiced their concerns at a forum regarding ongoing payroll issues.
Dr. Eric J. Rosser, the superintendent, said he and his team are considering a plan B for the payroll system. He learned that problems with the Oracle system took a turn for the worse.
Hundreds of workers, including Rosser himself, saw double deductions for this pay period. Rosser said the district has started cutting checks to compensate workers, with those payments set to arrive in the next paycheck.
These payroll issues were supposed to be resolved by the Sept. 19 payroll. Now, Rosser said the district is looking at other payroll systems.
“Sept. 19th yielded something much worse,” Rosser said. “At that point in time I knew I had to activate what I am committed to doing in making sure we have a system that is right for this organization. Right now Oracle has not demonstrated that.”
Rosser added, “We are in a discovery phase right now with a couple of different companies so in that event that we are like enough is enough we will then activate the other entity.”
Rosser said it will take some time for that, because the Oracle transition took four years.
Thursday’s Oracle payroll presentation will highlight everything the district has been seeing each payroll period from the beginning of Oracle to current date, and how they are addressing it.
