The 2025 MLBPA Players Choice Awards

The players each year vote in a handful of awards for their peers in the Major League Baseball Players Association. No active Chicago Cubs were honored this time around, but I still wanted to share the results, which did include a couple former players with Cubs ties:

    The full list of winners:

Player of the Year – Cal Raleigh

Marvin Miller Man of the Year – Brent Suter

Philanthropist of the Year – Aaron Nola

Curt Flood Award – Don Baylor & Scott Sanderson

AL Outstanding Player – Cal Raleigh

NL Outstanding Player – Kyle Schwarber

AL Outstanding Pitcher – Tarik Skubal

NL Outstanding Pitcher – Paul Skenes

AL Outstanding Rookie – Nick Kurtz

NL Outstanding Rookie – Drake Baldwin

AL Comeback Player – Jacob deGrom

NL Comeback Player – Ronald Acuña Jr.

Obviously Cubs fans might dispute the NL Outstanding Rookie selection, but I fear that Drake Baldwin might wind up taking Rookie of the Year from Cade Horton, too.

Kudos to Kyle Schwarber on the NL Outstanding Player nod. I think it’s hard not to give that one to Shohei Ohtani, all things considered, but Schwarber certainly did have a great season.

Cal Raleigh gets tons of love from fellow players, who undoubtedly know how hard it was to do what he did on offense all while locking down a season of catching. Aaron Judge unquestionably had the better offensive season – by a lot – but I am not surprised by the players’ selection.
