A live bullet was found inside a northwest suburban high school this week, prompting an early dismissal and canceled activities as authorities worked to investigate.
About 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, a student at Rolling Meadows High School reported to staff that a live bullet had been found within the school building, the Rolling Meadows Police Department said in a release.
The bullet was then turned into a staff member by the student, the release said, leading officials to place the school on a “hold” status.
Police responded to the school to assist School Resource Officers as part of the investigation, and an early dismissal was initiated. On-campus after school activities were canceled for the remainder of the day, the release said.
Police went on to say that no threats were found to have been made to students or staff.
An investigation remains ongoing, police said, with the department working with RMHS and Township High School District 214 to “ensure the safety of students and teachers at RMHS and to bring this incident to an appropriate resolution.”
District 214 did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
