HENRIETTA, N.Y. — A couple in Henrietta is urging for traffic safety changes after a car crashed into their home over the weekend. Carl and Lisa Burkhardt, who have lived at the intersection of East River Road and Brooks Road for about 30 years, said they have witnessed three crashes in front of their house in the past 10 days

“I woke up out of bed pretty quickly. I told Lisa there’s another car accident in front of the house,” Carl Burkhardt said.

The driver involved in the latest crash fled the scene, leaving behind car parts, debris, and damage to a hydrant and pole. The hydrant was replaced, but the Burkhardts are concerned about ongoing safety issues.

“The south side of the house has been hit almost eight times,” Carl Burkhardt said. “Six cars have landed here due to accidents from the corner.”

News10NBC’s Marsha Augustin visited the intersection to speak with town officials about possible solutions. Town Supervisor Stephen Schultz acknowledged the challenges in addressing the issue.

“They’ve done a lot of work. Unfortunately, this intersection itself is kind of constrained by the surrounding properties,” Schultz said. “The house behind me is only 18 feet off of the pavement. So there’s limitations to what they can potentially do here.”

When asked about the possibility of installing a traffic light, Schultz said that decision would ultimately be made by the Monroe County Department of Transportation.

The Burkhardts hope for changes soon to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of their neighborhood.
