Famed astronaut Buzz Aldrin's wife Anca Faur has died at the age of 66.
According to a statement shared on Facebook by the Faur and Aldrin Families on Wednesday, Oct. 29, Faur passed away “peacefully” on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 28 “with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side.”
"Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC," the statement read.
“I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life,” Aldrin, 95, added. “She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.”
At the end of the statement, the family requested privacy in their time of mourning.
Aldrin and Faur first met in December 2017 at a work event and began dating in May 2018. The couple said "I do" on Jan. 20 2023 — Aldrin's 93rd birthday.
"It was a beautiful day," Buzz said to People at the time. "We had decided on a private ceremony, as suitably intimate, just us and the stars in the sky."
He also told the outlet he had "never been happier in my life" and was "lucky beyond words" to be with her.
Aldrin was married three times prior to Faur, sharing children James, Janice, and Andrew with his first wife Joan Archer.
Faur's cause of death is currently unknown.
