Hawes, 53, launched a GoFundMe to earn funds to keep the house the hands of those who respect its supernatural roots. So far, he has raised more than $280,000, matching every donation himself.
"We’re not just preserving walls and wood," Hawes wrote in a statement. "We’re preserving stories, experiences, and a legacy that connects believers, skeptics, investigators, and everyday people who share the same curiosity about what lies beyond."
Hawes never wanted to buy the house. But pleas from former owners and paranormal enthusiasts are what got him to act.
"If we don’t step in, there’s a very real chance it will be bought by someone whose only goal is to turn it into a money-making machine," he explained.
Hawes’ goal is to place the home into an LLC managed by people tied to its history. Thsi will ensure the Conjuring house remains open for tours, research, and anyone brave enough to visit. "This house has connected people for decades," he added. "It deserves to be preserved, not exploited."
One anonymous donor contributed $100,000, leading Hawes to lower the campaign goal to $500,000. But time is running out.
At publication, the GoFundMe has earned over $284,000. "This was our second donation to the effort," said one donor. "Keeping our fingers crossed it’s a successful project! Thanks for getting involved, Jason!"
"This feels like our last chance to save the Conjuring House," he warned. "Together, we can protect this piece of history before it’s lost forever."
