An oceanfront car cruise backed by In-N-Out Burger will take place Jan. 17 in a city that’s part of the Beach Boys’ hit “Surfin’ USA.”
The event is called Cruisin’ 2 Freedom. It’s a fundraiser to combat human trafficking, a cause supported by In-N-Out’s owner and president, Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson, and an organization she created with her husband, Sean Ellingson, called Slave 2 Nothing.
The event evokes scenes depicted in In-N-Out T-shirts with classic cars driving by the Pacific Ocean, according to a news release.
It will begin and end at Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach. At 2 p.m., the cruise will begin along a nine-mile course and then return to the 4-acre park for a car show and an outdoor dinner on the sand, according to representatives.
Tickets are on sale at Slave 2 Nothing’s website. The full event costs $300. Car show entry and dinner costs $100. The dinner alone costs $75.
The meal will be supplied by In-N-Out cookout trucks, and in years past other food trucks serving items such as tacos and churros have joined in.
The program includes silent and live auctions and education about human trafficking.
All ticket levels include a commemorative T-shirt and gift.
Last year’s cruise, which started at Huntington Beach and ended at the OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa, raised more than $600,000.
Slave 2 Nothing holds the cruise in January, which is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. It also raises funds to combat substance abuse in October with a rock concert. This year’s show was held at the Hollywood Palladium on Oct. 18 and raised $934,700. Fundraising will continue at restaurants through the end of the month. In-N-Out will match contributions three-to-one up to $300,000.
In-N-Out covers the costs of Slave 2 Nothing’s fundraisers, according to its website, and all the funds it raises go to on-the-ground organizations where In-N-Out does business.
