Not only did I not make it the full double-length World Series game, but I woke up for the day when the game had only just ended three hours earlier!
Any 18-inning game is going to be, by default, a relatively crazy affair, full of close calls, great plays, and dramatic moments. I don’t want to claim that this one will forever be seen as an all-timer, but it certainly had a lot of the hallmarks. Freddie Freeman sure loves hitting particularly dramatic walk-off homers in the World Series. Last year, it was a grand slam to win Game One, and last night, it was an EIGHTEENTH INNING homer:FREDDIE FREEMAN WALK-OFF HOME RUN IN THE 18TH INNING! #WORLDSERIES pic.twitter.com/wD1xbRxDbC

— The Athletic (@TheAthletic) October 28, 2025 There’s only one other guy with two walk-off HITS in World Series history (Goose Goslin, which Christopher Kamka assures is a real name). So Freeman now very much stands alone among World Series lore. And of course Shohei Ohtani was making history in the game. The expected Game Four starting pitcher went 4-4 in the game with two homers and two doubles, and took five walks. I mean wtf with this guy.Shohei Ohtani reached base NINE times tonight, setting the #Postseason record and tying the all-time record! pic.twitter.com/vcUH59DdK1
— MLB (@MLB) October 28, 2025 Four of those walks, mind you, were intentional, but I still feel like it’s “earned” when the other team is so afraid of what you might do that they give you the walk instead. Your ability generated that walk, just the same as if you’d seen four balls miss the strike zone. A perhaps-less-heralded star from the game, but one whom Dodgers fans will undoubtedly remember forever:Will Klein went to Eastern Illinois. 5th round pick.Traded by Kansas City. DFA’d by the Athletics. Traded for international bonus pool space. DFA’d by the Mariners.Klein just threw a career-high 4 IP in relief, 0 runs, and earned the win in Game 3 of the World Series. pic.twitter.com/SjYHj61x5A

— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) October 28, 2025 Seeing Freddie Freeman play the hero and seeing the monster postseason Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is having reminded me … of Michael Busch. On the season, Busch hit .261/.343/.523/140 wRC+, topped only by Pete Alonso and by only ONE POINT of wRC+. The next two guys on the list? Freeman at 139 and Guerrero at 137. Now, am I going to state definitively and perpetually that Michael Busch is now firmly ensconced in that group of elite first base hitters? I won’t quite yet. However, I will say that, in 2025, he CLEARLY PERFORMED as one of those guys. Do it again in 2026, and then, yes, it’s just the way it is. First base was loaded in 2025, by the way. There were 12 primary first basemen who posted a wRC+ of 124 or better on the season. In 2022, there were ten. In 2023, there were six. In 2024, there were THREE. I’m putting this at the bottom of the Bullets because it’s really stupid, and there is nothing less interesting in the universe than other people’s dreams. But it was just too bizarre not to share. From a text I sent to friends who were probably wholly uninterested:So, I woke up when the game had just ended three hours earlier.
I very rarely remember my dreams. Even more rarely do I dream about baseball, and when I do, it’s basically always about the Cubs and something transaction or injury related.
I have definitely never in my life dreamt about Freddie Freeman. Why on earth would I? There would just be no reason for it. Well, last night, at around 4am, I woke up with a start because I’d just dreamt that Freddie Freeman brought me ice cream, but then was kinda mean to me when I made some jokes about him. The dream was uncommonly vivid and out of place. So when I woke up from it, the thing really stuck with me.
And he was apparently hitting that walk-off homer at the same time I was having that dream.
