Reba McEntire broke down in tears after a performance on The Voice reminded her of her late stepson Brandon Blackstock, who died from melanoma at the age of 48 in August.
During the Monday, Oct. 27 episode, contestant Aubrey Nicole performed Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” — a song about a 38-year-old woman who is supported by her husband while battling breast cancer.
The singer, who is on McEntire's team, dedicated the ballad to her father who is a cancer-survivor.
After listening to the emotional performance, McEntire cried and took about 10 seconds to collect herself before addressing Aubrey.
"I lost my oldest son, because he did not win with cancer," she said as her voice broke. "So that was a real reminder that life goes on, and we sing songs about it, so we can remember the ones that are around us that we love so much and that we lean on at times like this."
Fellow Voice coach Snoop Dogg passed McEntire tissues as she dried her tears.

Last week on Oct. 21, the country star shared what it was like raising her late stepson in an interview with People.
“My relationship with my stepson, Brandon Blackstock, was precious,” McEntire said. “I absolutely loved that child. He came into my life, I guess he was 4 years old. Then when Narvel [Blackstock] and I got married, he was 13, 14.”
“Along with his mom and dad, I helped raise him, along with [step kids] Shawna and Chassidy. They were my kids,” she continued.
McEntire married Narvel Blackstock, Brandon’s father, in 1989 before divorcing in 2015. In addition to being the stepmother of Narvel’s three children, the pair welcomed a child of their own — sonShelby McEntire Blackstock in 1990.

The talent manager was the ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, and together, they shared two children: daughter River, 11 and son Remington, 9. Blackstock also had children Savannah and Seth from a previous marriage.
