Actress Erin Murphyis sharing her thoughts about her magically gifted Bewitched character Tabitha Stephens.
While speaking to ReMind Magazine in October 2025, Murphy referenced that she played Tabitha, the daughter of witch Samantha Stephens (Elizabeth Montgomery) and her mortal husband, Darrin Stephens (Dick Sargent and Dick York), from Season 3 to the show's eighth and final season. Murphy shared how she believes Tabitha would be living her life in the modern day. The 61-year-old actress said she envisions her character as being free with her magical powers and finding great success.
"I think she would be very successful at whatever she did. I think she would not be afraid to use her magic because women of my generation and Tabitha’s generation are free to be and do whatever they want. So, I think she wouldn’t feel the need to hide in the closet. She would be out there living her best life," said Murphy to ReMind magazine.
The character, Tabitha, had her very own 1977 spinoff series titled Tabitha that ran for one season, as reported by IMDb. Tabitha was played by actress Lisa Hartman, per IMDb.
Erin Murphy Discussed Her Memories From Filming 'Bewitched'
In a 2020 interview with Studio 10, Murphy explained that she and her twin sister, Diane Murphy, were 2 years old when they were cast for the third season of Bewitched, which began airing in 1966. She said that she enjoyed filming more than her sister, so she eventually took over the role of Tabitha completely.
Murphy also said while she doesn't "remember the audition process because [she] was a baby," she "remember[s] all of the show."
Murphy made similar comments in the October 2025 ReMind Magazine interview. She said that people don't believe she actually remembers filming the show because she was so young. However, she said that she has a vivid memory from Season 3, Episode 15, where Tabitha's great aunt Clara, played by Marion Lorne, accidentally summons a polka-dotted elephant into Samantha's home.
"The first that I’m absolutely positive of — because people think a lot of my memories are from watching the show, like 'You saw that and that’s how you remember.' My first memories that I’m 100% sure of are from the episode with the pink polka dotted elephant with Aunt Clara," said Murphy to the publication. "I remember it because I have memories of meeting the elephant and playing with the elephant outside of the stage that were not filmed."
