BUFFALO, N.Y. — An employee with the University at Buffalo has been arrested after being accused of killing a woman and her infant child.
News10NBC’s Buffalo affiliate reports that 30-year-old Kidane Haile, from Buffalo, was arraigned Thursday on an indictment charging him with murder in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty to his charges.
Investigators say on Oct. 18, fire crews responded to a report of a fire in a first-floor apartment on Norwood Avenue in Buffalo. They say they found an adult woman, Kathleen “Katie” Craig, and her son, who was only four days old. Both of them were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Erie County District Attorney, it is believed Haile strangled Craig to death. Her son’s cause of death is still under investigation.

UB’s Employee Assistance Program will be providing counseling and other supportive services to affected employees in the coming days.
