It's official: the iconic Mexican restaurant chain Chi-Chi's has returned for the first time in over 20 years.
Though it was once one of the most popular restaurants in the food industry, Chi-Chi's fell on hard times in the early 2000s.
According to a serious lawsuit at the time, the chain filed for bankruptcy after hundreds of people were found ill after dining at the restaurant, with three people ultimately passing away.
Now, the once beloved restaurant has returned under new ownership, with its first location opening in St. Louis Park, Minnesota with a mixture of new and original menu items, according to an official press release from the company.
"Ch-Chi's is back stronger than ever," said Michael McDermott, founder of Chi-Chi's Restaurants, LLC. "We're bringing back the food, energy, and fun that people love, now with a fresh twist for a whole new generation."
"We're incredibly grateful to our supporters and investors who have helped make this moment possible, and we can't wait to welcome both familiar and new faces to experience Chi-Chi's," McDermott continued.
As part of the restaurant's reopening, Chi-Chi's has announced several exciting menu items to its eclectic menu, including some of the following:
Chi-Chi's Original Chimichanga: a crispy chimichanga filled with your choice of beef, chicken, short rib or red chili, served with guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and rice and beans.Quesabirria Tacos: three corn tacos stuffed with slow-cooked beef, oxaca cheese, onions and cilantro, accompanied by a consommé dipping sauce.Seafood Enchiladas: enchiladas served with a combination of shrimp and crab and topped with Chi-Chi's decadent lobster cream sauce. Manchego Burger: an angus beef burger topped with Manchego cheese, pico de gallo, avocado and chipotle mayonnaise.Original Nachos Grande: Tortilla chips topped with refried beans, ground beef, melty cheese and jalapeños.El Burro Con Queso: A burrito stuffed with either ground beef or shredded chicken, cheese, chili con queso and ranchero sauce.While the St. Louis Park location marks the first Chi-Chi's restaurant in two decades, the company has confirmed plans to reopen additional locations sometime in the near future.
