The World Series begins tonight after the long lay-off, and if the series comes down to which team put together the best hype promo, the Blue Jays are gonna sweep:Ready to defend the title. #WorldSeries pic.twitter.com/fqrEwr9mXG

— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) October 24, 2025 In all seriousness, the Dodgers are going to be the heavy favorite in the series, given how well their starting pitching is going right now. The Blue Jays are going to have to get into that bullpen early if they want a chance to put up the kind of runs they’ll probably need. Speaking of the Dodgers’ bullpen, but in news that is much more important than any ballgame, the Dodgers announced “with a heavy heart” that Alex Vesia would be away from the team while he and his wife “navigate a deeply personal family matter.” The Dodgers are exploring their options for replacing him on the roster if necessary, but I think everyone is much more concerned about the personal situation. You just hope everyone will be all right. The Brewers bumped GM Matt Arnold up to President of Baseball Operations, which doesn’t really change his duties, but it does make it a little harder for a team to offer him a president-level role in an attempt to poach. It also opens up the GM role for the Brewers to add externally, or, more likely make another internal promotion for protection purposes. Wade Davis in Game Five of the 2017 NLDS really was one of the most impressive relief performances in recent Cubs memory:“It was the most unbelievable performance by a reliever I had ever seen.”@ihapp_1 discusses Wade Davis’ 2017 NLDS Game 5 outing on the Compound Podcast! pic.twitter.com/WlJusFSGnl
— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) October 24, 2025 For me, what Davis did was so impressive not necessarily solely because of the results (2.1 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K – good, not great), but because of the entire context. That game was crazy, intense, close, and was a decisive game. The Cubs’ pitching staff was cooked, and Davis was pitching in fumes. For him to be able to give the Cubs 44 competitive pitches at that time and lock down the win was how they won. — MLB (@MLB) October 23, 2025 Bizarre factoid:Fun Kazuma Okamoto note. His max exit velo in the 2025 NPB season was 108.9mph. Maybe has us thinking the raw power is a bit capped. HOWEVER…His actual hardest hit ball of the year? Against the Cubs!He roped a 112.6mph double off Daniel Palencia in the exhibition in March
— FullCountTommy (@FullCountTommy) October 24, 2025 Remember Rintaro Sasaki? The top Japanese high school slugger who made the surprise move to come to the United States and play at Stanford last year? Well, he got drafted in the first round of the NPB draft anyway, so now he has a lot of options ahead of him:Interesting development for the 2026 MLB Draft. Rintaro Sasaki was selected in the 1st round of the NPB Draft. He can do three things in July:1) Go pro if selected in the MLB Draft (currently a fourth-seventh round grade).2) Go play for SoftBank in NPB3) Return to Stanford t.co/30ooxZjrPl
— Joe Doyle (@JoeDoyleMiLB) October 23, 2025 I suspect a lot is going to depend on how his second season at Stanford plays out. He really did not hit all that well as a freshman (.269/.377/.413, ton of strikeouts, only 7 dingers), but he was just 19 and making a pretty significant transition. If he breaks out this year, as many scouts have felt he could – there’s a reason he has been on the radar for years – that MLB Draft grade is going to rocket up, and maybe he winds up getting picked in the first couple rounds. Either way, an MLB org might have to make him a very strong offer to get him to sign, given that he would have the option of returning to Stanford for his junior season, or going back to Japan to start his professional career. (If he goes that route, though, he locks himself in to the NPB for nine seasons, or until his team decides to post him.)
