Iconic Comfort Food Restaurant Chain Closes Multiple Locations Due to Legal Battle

Big Boy restaurants are still going strong across the U.S. — though a number of company-owned locations have just closed in a key area.

The fan-favorite restaurant group closed all six of its Dolly’s Burgers & Shakes locations in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio on Thursday, Oct. 23, media outlets including TheStreet report.

“After careful evaluation, Big Boy Restaurant Group has determined that continuing to operate under these conditions is no longer sustainable or beneficial for its employees or the brand,” the company said in a statement, per The Street.

The six restaurants were branded as Dolly’s Burgers and Shakes, though the company intended to eventually operate them as Big Boys, Restaurant Business reported this week, but a March restraining order filed against it by Frisch’s has prevented it from rebranding the stores — which ultimately led BBRG to bow out of the market.

“Despite the dedication of its team members and the support of the community, the litigation remains unsolved, and the company is still unable to operate under the Big Boy name in this market,” BBRG told the local Fox news station on Oct. 20. “After careful evaluation, Big Boy Restaurant Group has determined that continuing to operate under these conditions is no longer sustainable or beneficial for its employees [or] brand.”

Here are the Dolly’s Burgers and Shakes locations that closed on Thursday:

7706 Beechmont Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio 452559830 Colerain Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 452515202 Delhi Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 452388181 North Springboro Pike, Miamisburg, Ohio 453429070 Plainfield Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 4523620 Troy Town Dr, Troy, Ohio 45373

“While Big Boy Restaurant Group is stepping back from the Southwest Ohio market at this time, the company remains hopeful that once the matter is resolved, it will be able to return and reopen its doors under the Big Boy name,” according to a statement from Big Boy Restaurant Group, per TheStreet.
