WEBSTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Webster Thomas football has seen a remarkable turnaround, led by quarterback Nolan Bhame and running back MJ Wells. The duo has been instrumental in the team’s success as they aim for their first playoff win since 2021.
“He’s kind of like a big brother to me. He’s a team captain. He leads the offense,” Wells said about Bhame.
Bhame praised Wells’ ability to gain crucial yards.
“If we need one yard, we got MJ over here and he’s going to get us that one yard,” said Bhame.
Wells has been motivated by helmet stickers, which players on Webster Thomas football earn for different stats during their games.
“The stickers represent tackles, touchdowns, rushing yards. You get 100 rushing yards a game you get a sticker,” Wells said.
Wells expressed his determination to continue his aggressive playing style, to keep getting stickers, and keep the team advancing in the playoffs.
“I don’t run away from people, I like to run through people. Not afraid of contact,” Wells said.
While Wells is the star player, he’s got a great group around him. The Titans have won six consecutive games after an initial loss this season, showcasing their potential for a strong playoff run.
“We’re not the same Thomas Titans that we have been in the past. I think obviously we’ve shown in the regular season that we can win,” Bhame said.
The Titans are focused on winning Sectionals and potentially advancing to the state level.
“Sectionals is nice. We gotta win out first. States is a stretch but I feel like with our team, our bond that we have, we could definitely make it there,” Wells said.
Webster Thomas football is determined to achieve success in the playoffs, with Bhame and Wells leading the charge.
