Actor David Giuntoli, best known for his roles in Grimm and A Million Little Things, is opening up about auditioning to play Superman, AKA Clark Kent, in the 2013 film, Man of Steel.
In an October 2025 interview on Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum's podcast, Inside of You, Giuntoli said he auditioned for the role, which ultimately went to Henry Cavill. According to Giuntoli, he went through three rounds of auditions, including a "read with big producers."
He said, however, that he didn't realize the significance of auditioning in front of said producers. The 45-year-old actor said he believed his ignorance ended up being beneficial during the audition process.
"I was so new that I didn't even know that that was an important thing. Do you know what I mean? Which was kind of my superpower, was I just didn't know. But then again, I didn't get it," said Giuntoli in the interview.
He also suggested he believed he was too short to play the all-powerful Kryptonian.
"I mean, I'm 5'10", man," said Giuntoli in the Inside of You interview.
Henry Cavill Played Superman in Several Movies
